04 Sep Handprinted Textiles Workshop in São Paulo, Brazil
Brazil comes to us as an idea of country on fire, literally and also socially and economically. However it is also full of creativity. The workshop we gave at Desdobras Raras showed us that. Sao Paulo is a huge city. The first impact, for those who leave a quiet place like the one where I live, is hurry everywhere and a polluted atmosphere. But people are kind, cheerful and enthusiastic about everything that involves doing with their own hands.
Fernanda Kikuchi welcomed us with that enthusiasm. She opened the door to her house, her studio, and the workspace she shares with other craft women. She publicized our workshop as her own and 8 women attended, all of them willing to learn and talk about the issues that unite us. The workshop outcomes exceeded all the expectations. In just four hours they designed and carved their own stamp and hand printed a tote bag that they proudly wore upon leaving.
